The Inspiration For This Site
Author David Eagleman once wrote,
“There are three deaths. The first is when the body ceases to function. The second is when the body is consigned to the grave. The third is that moment, sometime in the future, when your name is spoken for the last time”.
As my parents Donald and Marjorie Richards aged into their 90s, I started thinking deeply about this sentiment, particularly the idea of the third death. I found it distressing to think that 2 people who had lived such rich lives touching so many friends and family as well as so many others in their professional lives would someday just be names on a headstone – forgotten and never spoken of again.
That thought inspired the design of an easily accessible memorial to our beloved parents – 2 people who were adored and loved by EVERYONE they crossed paths with – who were the figureheads of a family that so many others had come to admire and envy – and who lived deeply impactful professional lives and rich, vibrant personal lives.
This site is dedicated to the stories and memories of our parents Donald and Marjorie Richards. It’s a portal for all family close and distant as well as friends and acquaintances to come and reminisce and contribute their own memories of 2 lives so well lived. It is dedicated to the idea that the third death might be delayed as long as possible for them both!
Please explore the pages within and leave your comments and personal memories to be added to the collection already here. It is my hope that this site offers inspiration for direct descendants, extended family & friends alike. And,for future family generations, a window into the lives of your ancestors.
Scott Richards – Youngest son of Donald and Marjorie.
